No one should tolerate this kind of resistance by Israel, which will come, to an adequate investigation of what actually went down.

Previous RNRH episodes with Col. Wilkerson have provided an excellent analysis of foreign policy. This episode is no exception. My comment may not seem entirely relevant to the discussion, but I’ll discuss the relevance towards the end of the comment.
I would not normally listen to such a thing, but someone elsewhere mentioned a recent episode of the New York Times’ podcast from their ‘The Daily’ series of podcasts which are extremely popular and are distributed to some public radio stations. The episode is from Oct. 23rd and has the host Michael Barbaro and NY Times economic policy reporter Jim Tankersley discussing national debt, tax policy, and other macroeconomic issues given what is expected to be the priorities of the House under the new Speaker and given Biden’s proposed foreign policy appropriations.
Unfortunately, almost every point they make is empirically false. The central point of the discussion is to discuss a “magical time” and “virtuous cycle” (their words!) when a similarly raucous Republican-led House under Newt Gingrich and the Clinton administration balanced the budget in the 1990s using ‘Rubinomics’ under the then Treasury Secretary, and very corrupt figure (the corruption is not mentioned in the show), Robert Rubin. Of course, Fed Secretary Alan Greenspan and Rubin’s lackey Larry Summers were a part of that rather libertarian economic strategy. ‘The Daily’ makes balancing the budget out to be something great when, in reality, the austerity, privatization, and deregulation which came from that policy continues to devastate the majority of the US population and, of course, it led to disasters such as the 2008-9 GFC (naturally, ‘The Daily’ does not mention Rubinomics’ rôle in the GFC).
I take it then that Mr. Nader does not view the corporatization/neolibralism under ‘Rubinomics’ to be such a desirable policy position. With that in mind, and with empirically-sound economic measures in mind, I am left bamboozled as to why, for the third RNRH episode in a row, Mr. Nader is propagating, at least in a mild way, improper economic theory by suggesting that US taxpayers are ‘funding’ Israeli military aggression with tax returns which are just canceled money. Previous RNRH episodes with Col. Wilkerson have provided an excellent analysis of foreign policy. This episode is no exception. My comment may not seem entirely relevant to the discussion, but I’ll discuss the relevance towards the end of the comment.
I would not normally listen to such a thing, but someone elsewhere mentioned a recent episode of the New York Times’ podcast from their ‘The Daily’ series of podcasts which are extremely popular and are distributed to some public radio stations. The episode is from Oct. 23rd and has the host Michael Barbaro and NY Times economic policy reporter Jim Tankersley discussing national debt, tax policy, and other macroeconomic issues given what is expected to be the priorities of the House under the new Speaker and given Biden’s proposed foreign policy appropriations.
Unfortunately, almost every point they make is empirically false. The central point of the discussion is to discuss a “magical time” and “virtuous cycle” (their words!) when a similarly raucous Republican-led House under Newt Gingrich and the Clinton administration balanced the budget in the 1990s using ‘Rubinomics’ under the then Treasury Secretary, and very corrupt figure (the corruption is not mentioned in the show), Robert Rubin. Of course, Fed Secretary Alan Greenspan and Rubin’s lackey Larry Summers were a part of that rather libertarian economic strategy. ‘The Daily’ makes balancing the budget out to be something great when, in reality, the austerity, privatization, and deregulation which came from that policy continues to devastate the majority of the US population and, of course, it led to disasters such as the 2008-9 GFC (naturally, ‘The Daily’ does not mention Rubinomics’ rôle in the GFC).
I take it then that Mr. Nader does not view the corporatization/neolibralism under ‘Rubinomics’ to be such a desirable policy position. With that in mind, and with empirically-sound economic measures in mind, I am left bamboozled as to why, for the third RNRH episode in a row, Mr. Nader is propagating, at least in a mild way, improper economic theory by suggesting that US taxpayers are ‘funding’ Israeli military aggression with tax returns which are just canceled money. This was also inferred in Mr. Nader and Mr. Fein’s otherwise excellent letter to President Biden. The last thing we need are Mr. Nader and Mr. Fein signaling to Biden that Biden needs to follow Bill Clinton’s economic strategy!
The US taxpayers are not funding Israel in any way other than that US voters have elected governments which unquestioningly support Israel. From a budget perspective, the US can fund the current military misadventures, but the US public cannot afford these misadventures from the humanitarian and national security perspectives. We also cannot afford it from an legal/international standards perspective which has been made clear by Mr. Fein. These are the problems which correctly need to be addressed. The fear is that Biden and Congress will support the current military misadventures and will then be convinced by the public that there needs to be austerity economics domestically to ‘help fund’ the misadventures which, at least for now, are viewed as being politically popular. Certainly propaganda is part of that. The last thing we need from Mr. Nader is to compound diseased foreign policy with diseased domestic policy. If anything, we need Mr. Nader and the RNRH to counter the rubbish produced by the likes of ‘The Daily’.
