Ralph welcomes six authors to discuss their books: “Beyond Nuclear” founder Linda Gunter; trial lawyer Sean Simpson; law professor Elizabeth Burch; naturalist David Schmidt; industrial hygienist Marc Axelrod; and educator and advocate Jonathan Kozol.
Good discussions as usual. We need more and more political activism to overcome the complacency and endless diversions the American public are involved in. Sports, gambling, alcohol and drug addictions, mindless entertainment, crazy religious groups--these and so many other things are distracting citizens from achieving political progress. I don't know what it will take to stem the disastrous slides away from healthy American culture. All the substack writers who stay focused on the current dictatorship and the lawless military attacks on foreign countries are keeping people informed while the propagandistic media deny the current reality.
Will have to keep listening later but nuclear power is not really clean, is it? How about nuclear waste? It all needs to end up somewhere and has there been any studies about how it affects the environment and how safe it is?
Great 6 books , a must read for all , do you think the library systems of America will put them on their must buy list ? A clear indication of education in America,, where are the Carnegie 's when we need them ? Musk is more is concerned about going to Mars , come on America we made a 1000 of you billionaire s ,, you can spare a dime . Good luck America have a great day my friends
Linda Gunter was right when she said the politicians are only listening to the big money interests and not listening to the voters. This is true for nuclear power and pretty much every issue discussed on the Radio Hour.
The first step to solutions on these issues is to get the big money out of politics so the politicians will listen to the voters on those issues.
As the big money politicians do not listen to the voters getting the big money out of politics cannot be accomplished through legislation as the big money politicians would first have to be replaced by small donor politicians to pass legislation to get the big money out of politics.
The problem has to be solved before legislation to solve the problem can be passed.
Ralph has said that politicians want our votes more than big money. 80% of citizens want the big money out of politics yet they keep voting for big money politicians.
Citizens can demand small donor candidates and enforce that demand with our votes in 2026 putting Ralph's statement into action.
Just 10% participation in 2026 could inspire more citizens to participate in 2028 and some candidates to run small donor campaigns in 2028. This could inspire more citizens and candidates to participate in 2030 and we can be well on our way to getting the big money out of politics by 2030 without waiting another forty years for big money politicians to pass legislation that the big money interests do not want them to pass.
Just 6-7% of the 150 million voters investing just 100 dollars in contributions to small donor candidates would total 1 billion dollars and be just the tip of the iceberg.
We can also use this model to finance a non-profit media conglomerate selling shares for 100 dollars each. These shares could only be owned by citizens and no one citizen could own more than ten shares. The shares could only be sold for 100 dollars as the purpose of owning the shares is not to make money on the value of the shares but for ordinary citizens to control the media instead of the big money interests.
Then shows like the Radio Hour and shows like Phil Donahue's could get vital information about strategies like these and other issues to the citizens.
What is Ralph waiting for to have me on the Radio Hour to discuss these strategies that are the embodiment of the principles he espouses?
Citizens making a demand and enforcing that demand with their votes is the most basic principle of democracy so if Ralph thinks this strategy will not work he needs to explain why democracy will not work.
But if Ralph does believe in democracy then he should be willing to discuss using democracy to save democracy.
Just because an idea is not in a book does not mean it is not a good idea.
There’s another book worth looking at, called: America Ground Zero. It’s about the testing of nuclear bombs here and in Our territories in the Pacific.
An excellent format, RNRH peeps! Please make this a regular feature. All four very timely and interesting books and authors.
