Don't you just love it the way Trump plays the Republicans, Democrats, liberals, and news pundents like a fiddle as he asks Putin how to become a better dictator --- as the wars in Gaza and Ukraine rage on . For a country with a Gross Domestic Product lower than that of the state of Texas any international Hedge fund would be more than willing to invest in Russia if body counts were converted into crypto dollars on their way to becoming United States Treasury bills ..

Will the Donald get his Peace Prize in 3 years ? Will Adolf's play book in 36 become real ? Why are so many people confused ? Good luck America ,have a great day my friends .

Democrats selling out voters on the shutdown both kneecapped their own party and gave the GOP a “get out of jail free” card.

The only part that surprises me is why anybody feels surprised, given the recurrence of this history over and over again.

It was hard to listen to Dani. Particularly her tone and sentences finished on a higher note. She sounds like a clone.

I respect the struggle. I was part of a group that got a cease fire resolution passed in Glenwood Springs Colorado. We brought in Dr. Nader Hashemi to speak in Aspen. I’m pro Palestinian.

But she avoided Ralph’s questions. It’s not clear that they get anything done, as Ralph pointed out in the bonus content.

It seems like they do everything but what matters most - getting lawmakers in office, hold hearings.

I can protest about the climate crisis all day everyday. But unless I get lawmakers behind me, nothing changes.

Piling up a social media following isn’t change - it’s awareness. And as the great Jane McAlevey said, I’ll paraphrase, awareness is nowhere.

When I hear Dani, or so many like her, I’m reminded of this quote:

"Protests are important. But changing the culture means nothing if the law doesn't change".

I agree, she seemed to evade Ralph’s questions about seeking shadow hearings. However, Jewish Voice for Peace does seem to have been involved in lobbying Congress about Palestine. For example, it is one of a number of organizations that are formally supporting pending bill H.R. 876, a resolution with 20 House member sponsors from states across the country that names Israel’s atrocities in Gaza a “genocide” (the first time most of these members have used the word), calls for an end to financial and other support for Israel, both by the government and by companies, and commits to enforcing domestic and international law with respect to Israel. We can express our support for this bill by calling and or writing our Congressional representatives. The number of sponsors has grown, and hopefully, with pressure from citizens, will continue to grow. I was surprised that Dani didn’t mention this pending bill. Her interview would have been an opportunity to get the word out.

I don’t disagree that JVP is doing work.

And I’m not saying we should let perfect should be the enemy of the good.

Politics is messy.

Nancy's avatar

I’m agreeing with you about needing votes in Congress. Although the Vietnam War protests were a significant factor in ending the war, the war did not actually end until Congress voted to cut off funds. The same should happen with Gaza. Let’s hope the pending bill is a start.

Paul and Nancy. Dani wasn't avoiding his questions about shadow hearings so much as letting him know that kind of policy-making was not part of her job at JVP. It doesn't indicate she's against it. That's just not her bailiwick.

Thanks Steve.

Is there a way that I can get access to the transcript without using the "app"?

I have a very old computer/OS/Browser and it can't do "apps". Thank you!

We try to post a fully-proofed pdf transcript within a week of the show posting. You can watch out for that.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

It is no surprise that Dems caved when enticed by big money contributions and Congress continues to abdicate their responsibilities.

How do they keep getting away with this?

Because citizens keep abdicating their responsibility by voting for politicians that take big money.

Trump and the decades of purposeful ineptitude of the Dems are the symptoms of this abdication.

But there is hope. Just as public opinion has changed getting some politicians to reject AIPAC money we can change public opinion about politicians taking any big money by organizing citizens to demand small donor candidates and enforcing that demand with our votes in 2026.

PLEASE RALPH- don't let the Dems get away again with using symptoms of their purposeful ineptitude to offer us more of the same nothing they have delivered for decades while ignoring the cause that is big money corrupting our political process.

How much longer will you, Ralph, abdicate your responsibility to inform and lead citizens to use this basic principle of democracy to eliminate the big money from politics?

If you are saying this won't work then you are saying democracy won't work.

But if you believe democracy can work then isn't it time for you to get to work on making it work?

What could have been more damning than the Democrats caving in to the dictator Trump? Nothing, besides attacking motherhood and apple pie! David Dayen’s discussion about the details of the spineless (my word) Democrats is accurate. People can rally all they want and talk about the Congressional elections in 2026, but Trump’s dictatorship may be too well established by then.

Dani Noble’s discussion about the work of Jewish Voice for Peace was good. Congratulations on her new family member, but it’s not exactly a good strategy to continue to bring up personal issues in relationship to the Gaza genocide. Sorry if this sounds insensitive. JVP was most effective on college and university campuses in the early stages of the war, but when protests were often brutally shut down, JVP was left without its best representatives.

Sam Simon fights the good fight while being incredibly productive against cognitive disabilities. Why more inroads haven’t been developed against these diseases is problematic and a tragedy, but Sam Simon leads the way...

As Ralph wrote In the Public Interest: "The New York Times Does Not Fear Trump ... But Bret Stephens Is Another Matter." - Bret Stevens controls what's written about Israel and Gaza in the NYT's and is a staunch defender of the status-quo in the region.

I'm grateful the government has re-opened and hope that the Congress comes to life and as Trump continues to be exposed as the greatest con-artist in history, that this painful process continues until either his demise or impeachment becomes inevitable.

Chris Hedges who opened the show has been increasingly dark, a true doomsayer without providing reasonable paths forward for reform and recovery as many people could do. We do have generations following the "baby boom" generation which have sharp people with good solutions, as they don't want to be stuck in a dystopia where there is no hope! To expunge and attack good paths forward is truly dark. I can think of hundreds of solutions to many social problems.

Back in the 1940s the Republicans rejected national healthcare as Great Britain adopted national healthcare. Getting greed out of our healthcare/sickcare system should be an objective for leaders in the field.

Hypocrites the father of modern medicine actually said "...let your food be your medicine and your medicine be food". Ralph Nader follows that at least partly. I've spoken to the health food store in Winsted, CT that sends things up to him regularly. Years ago I'd get a 25# bag of organic carrots that I'd juice up to increase health, general life force increased a lot. Also I juiced alfalfa/radish sprouts, over a pound a day with a non-electric juicer and they did wonders to increase vitality. And we're spending huge amounts of money to support the sickcare system with the most depraved and damaging procedures and drugs? Natural and faith-based genuine solutions are far better. Try giving substantial financial and other contributions to the needy in your society instead of worrying about your body!

Sadly, our healthcare system is not designed to properly care for patients living with dementia. The last thing families want to do is commit a relative to a locked “memory care unit.” Memory care is about as accurate a term as Medicare Advantage.

I worked in a Nursing Home in Bklyn with first dedicated dementia unit in the

country in abt 1990. Back then the funding allowed for recreation therapists and activities to ease the anxiety associated with this disorder.

That’s not the case now.

As I found out when I placed my mom after burnout from being her primary caregiver for 4 years there are no services. You’re just locked in a unit to pace the halls for the remainder of your life.

And there’s a resurgence of reliance on antipsychotics to manage aggressive behavior and compensate for staff shortages.

I believe if there was more funding for home health aides for up to 12 hrs/day fewer people would be in LTC facilities.

But it’s almost impossible to get even 6 hrs/day as it is.

As a former Medicare provider I thought I could navigate the maze of bureaucracy. Boy was I wrong. I needed help to deal with Florida’s cruel MDCD system which is designed to literally lock you out. Later, I had to fight tooth and nail and to get a few more hrs/day for the home health aides and it was still inadequate. It was no where near the 12 hrs/day that I needed.

When I finally placed her breaking the promise I made when I was 14 to never place her in a home, it was heartbreaking.

She was alert enough to know she was being placed.

Now that they’re cutting MDCD I shudder to think about what would happen to our memory impaired seniors.

MDCD pays for the bulk of LTC placement.

People have no idea what awaits their loved ones.

The reason why we need to keep describing cognitive decline or cognitive impairment in the elderly as “dementia” is because this term is well understood by the lay public.
