I hope you will now find my description of recycling to be persuasive. Every time I write, I get the impression that you fail to appreciate this fact with respect to the recycling scam. Nick Chater marginally mentioned plastic waste, but this is only the tip of the iceberg. This is only one polluting product among thousands, even though the public has fastened on this particular example because it is so visible and egregious. My work has been in a particular field which scares many because it involves what people call "chemical waste" or "hazardous waste" or "toxic materials". I have shown, by operating my company Zero Waste Systems that these unwanted materials can yield to the same solutions as building materials, or appliances or plastics, namely a resort to science instead of magic, which is what recycling is. It is well known, and incontrovertible that recycling has always been a failure in every domain in which it is used. Clever people have twisted and distorted the recycling delusion into unrecognizable approaches which are still, when you apply an educated vision, still just forms of recycling, namely magical solutions without basis in science. Solving complex social problems always requires hard work, embodied in research. You cannot solve such problems, the way that recyclers attempt to do, by just waving your hands and coming up with the first simple idea that pops into your head of how to reuse some minor component in your waste product while discarding the larger function into a dump. The theoretical analysis of waste avoidance has some deep aspects that are not obvious. My early book was called Getting To Zero Waste but the much better 3rd Edition will be coming out soon.
