We welcome back nuclear power expert, Peter Bradford, former Nuclear Regulatory Commissioner and board member for the Union of Concerned Scientists to update us on the latest nuclear power boondoggles that force customers to pay for the construction of nuclear reactors sometimes decades before they benefit from any energy that’s produced.
Sometimes it's hard to think of a town or city gone in a flash , new York City, Paris , San Francisco. I remember in the 50 's and 60's looking out from Los Vegas seeing the flash in the distance and thinking the summer sky may produce rain tonight or tomorrow. As kids we were told it was all because of that Japanese thing that happened and as kids we would hide under our school desks taking no time to put away our pencils in our pencil box .
Will we see flashes in the sky from Los Vegas if Trump has his way ? Will our kids learn to hide under their desks and we all hope the only flash is the all clear signal from our I phones ?
It doesn't take a lot of stupidity to do a lot of damage in our so called modern world . Even if a moron at the top says pull the plug ,,will there be some smart guy or gal at the bottom that says " not on my watch buster " and maybe it will be that unknown guy or gal , we will never know or give metals and accolades to that saved our world. Did Ms. McClain report her experience to osc.gov? That Office of Special Counsel has a whistleblower protection unit. I wonder if they failed her, too. (I used to work for their Oakland office in a secretarial role, for Dennis Whitebook, an investigator, who retired in 2009, and for Bruce Fong, a Lawyer.)
When I think of nuclear power and its dangers, I think of the occasional Chevy Corsair advertised on Facebook Marketplace. Both the former and the later are “Unsafe at Any Speed.” Peter Bradford does an excellent job discussing the dangers of nuclear power and the industry’s dangerous spent fuel.
Becky McClain illustrates the danger of working as a former biotech worker at Pfizer. Her battle to win justice for her illness suffered in doing research work is exemplary. I was not surprised that her husband was targeted for retribution because of her successful battle.
Now that Trump has cut federal money, the investors who loaned money to build the Dams in Georgia want their Money!!! Ga. can't even make their basic payroll obligations. The Insurance companies are going to start quating rates based on credit scores, excise tax, doin away with the state income tax, which
The State of Georgia is getting erectricity from Georgia Power, one way or another! Theoretically, the Federal Law views Coal Ash the same as household waste. So, this has allowed the EPA and the Environmental Protection Division to create a system of laws for how Ga. Power can go about "closing" the local coal ash impoundments, these unlined pits. This allowed them to do this by: Excavating and moving it to safer lined storage, or they can close it in place, meaning: Leaving it in Unlined Pits by the Rivers. There are 29 Coal Ash Ponds. 10 of those were capped in place in April of 2021. Ga. Power started seeking permits from the state agency to essentially formalize their plns(the "Plans") to leave this waste in place. These permits allowed them to : in 2021 and 2022 to leave 6 million tons of coal ash right in Cobb County, Ga., and to leave another 15 million tons at Plant Wansley forever. Plant Hammond: Floyd County, Ga. .1 million tons; Plant McDonough: Cobb County, Fa. 6.2 million tons; Plant Yates: Coweta Couty, Ga. : 7.4 million tons. Two more good examples of how our government and media are controlled by and operated for the benefit of the big money interests.
Millions of citizens contacting Congress and protesting these symptoms will not change the behavior of Congress as long as the politicians are taking big money.
There is no incentive for the big money politicians to change their behavior as long as citizens keep voting for them when the politicians take big money and work for the big money interests.
If we want to control the politicians we must demand that politicians run small donor campaigns and enforce that demand with our votes to force politicians work for us instead of the big money interests treating the cause instead of complaining about the symptoms.
Waiting for the big money politicians to stop taking big money or pass legislation such as public financing to constitutional amendments to get big money out of politics is similar to trying end world hunger with caviar- it costs too much (as described in this and many other episodes), it takes too long (it hasn't worked in the last 50 years), you get too little of it (again see the last 50 years) and you displace all of the better sources (demanding small donor candidates and enforcing that demand with our votes).
The corporate controlled media will ignore these stories as long as they are controlled by big money.
While we can't control the media with our votes we can create media we do control by forming a non-profit media conglomerate selling shares for 100 dollars each. These shares could only be owned by citizens and no one person could own more than ten shares. These shares could only be sold for 100 dollars as the purpose of owning the shares is to control the media and not to make money on the value of the shares.
Just 6-7% of the 150 million voters investing just 100 dollars would total 1 billion dollars to get this started.
Will you Ralph offer citizens the nutrition our citizens and democracy hungers for or will you continue just say 'let 'em eat caviar'?
