I attended a recent Progressive Democrats of America online meeting

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDivJHsXvp8). A guest was Nadine Smith

from Wide Awake America. I would like to share some of the points she

made which may be helpful in managing in our new “Bro-ligarchy,”

government:

First:

-Don’t fall for shock and awe

-Focus on the Arsonist, not the fire

-Know this: It was not a blow out election. Less people voted for Trump

in 2024 than in 2016.

Their tactics:

-Propaganda-used to make us feel that nothing is for sure, believing

that everything is plausible, destabilizes and makes one feel afraid.

-People who are afraid can be easily manipulated.

-Fear shuts people down; Hope is discipline.

Responding:

-Silence is complicity.

-Put questions to any confrontations with authorities and make them put

it in writing: what is the precise law you are being accused of

violating? Confronting the bully. They look big but think of the mouse

in the flashlight-looks big in the focused light but is really small.

-Don’t retreat.

-Do not obey in advance. Make them chase you out.

-People get hurt badly because their afraid of getting hurt a little.

Better to jump from a burning house and have a broken leg then burn up

in the house.

-Remain connected. Build Alliances. When we stand up, we have alliances

we did not know we had.

-Provide information-”If you see something, say something.” Don’t wait

for the press to report on everything.

-Rather than voicing Strong opinions, be Curious of people offering

misinformation-”Where did you hear that? I would like to learn more

about your thoughts, where did you get that information?”

-Provide Humane Responses to opposing arguments. “Are you sure you want

your immigrant neighbor and their children arrested? Are you sure you

want ICE tramping through your children’s school?”

-Review Anti-bullying training to build your reserves and understanding

of strategies.

-Use strategies regularly-like muscle building, strategies need to be

practiced regularly.

-Proximity-listen to people who are in close proximity to the issue/area

of concern to learn the ways to approach the problem. Don’t assume you

know best.

-Gum up the works: People have already overloaded the Federal Employee

“snitch-line”.

-When we fight, we win-”Don’t say gay” is remembered more than the

original anti-gay legislation.

-Calling out Employers who support Trump.

Personal Care:

-Emotionally bracing yourself in order to decrease despair

Mentally prepare yourself-Authoritarians do shock and awe and other

tactics intentionally to drain your energy

-Self Care is not selfish. This is Marathon, pace yourself.

-Have a sense of care with each other. Do not expect everyone to be a

purist on every issue.

Ralph,

Your opening statement was a real "slap" in the face to me.

I was the one that warned YOU and offered you the solution way back in 2015 and you have pretty much ignored me for the last ten years.

Despite all the good things you have done- Shame on you.

Please issue a retraction of your opening statement at the beginning of the next episode and make good on your statement from Washington Journal (10-24-2018) when you said you would have me on the Radio Hour to discuss the solution I offered.

Your strategies have not worked for several decades because if they did there would never have been a President Trump in 2016 or 2024.

It is way past time to admit you were wrong and explore the solution that I have offered and any other options that may be available instead of doubling down on your failed strategies going forward.

Thanks for the program. What is really worrying now is Trump's war on the bureaucracy. Clearly there are many quality civil servants in the US who should remain in their jobs to maintain law and order. With the reckless and peremptory actions by Trump and his minions, I'm having trouble following what is actually happening. Maybe you could have people close to the governmental agencies in DC who could tell us what is happening.

I remember those slapp suits from way back strategic lawsuit against public participation. I think they threatened me with some of that over something once. I got arrested as an activist many dozens of times mainly for the ancient forest. my response in general was to become as freaky as possible and go back to the land in Humboldt County… why would I want “success?” so they could sue me and take it? so I could pay more in taxes that they could use for more genocidal mania? fuck all of that! Ralph you were the one good choice I ever felt excited about voting for. except for you I had to accept ‘my choice’ of the evil of the lessers and vote rothschilds &co every single time. this mayhem is unsafe at any speed. when the FBI cointelpro put the bomb in our leaders car over the ancient forest Earth First! successful movement to derail it , at least I knew we were on the right track. I took a hemp rope from my tipi and hung a banner right off that poor old statue of liberty for Leonard Peltier and all life on earth… that was back in 1990. the banner said READ HER LIPS- FREE LEONARD PELTIER I hope he gets to enjoy some free time finally thank god. https://www.yahoo.com/news/plant-tree-leonard-peltier-reflects-222821581.html

For the good or the bad most economic battles in society end when those on the outside lose and those on the endside walk away with less . The bad outside call on raising the tariffs will disfavor the poor and make the rich want to walk away with their money .. why ?

Rich money for the poor never happens unless the rich care ,,Do the," new", rich ,, Musk, Zuck, Bezos, Trump really care about the poor ?

In bad times is there going to be rich money for the poor ? And I wouldn't bet or count on the government coming up with the short fall fix this time , but I maybe wrong.

Good luck America, have a great day my friends.

Here is a suggestion for a guest: Bill Ayers. His book When Freedom is the Question, Abolition is the Answer is excellent and I think you will enjoy it. For some reason I think Hannah, in particular, will enjoy the book. I think Bill Ayers has a lot of important insights and his take on education overlaps with Ralph's. Hope you consider him as a guest

Mr. Desantis failed to mention the smear job that Democrats were doing on behalf of Big Pharma at the Kennedy hearing. You and your guests continually fail to mention the failures of Democrats. HHS is an industry captured department that serves industry at the expense of our citizens the result of which is many deaths and huge profits for Big Pharma. Some of Mr. Trumps nominees are a refreshing break from past administrations both Democrat and Republican. I welcome Bobby Kennedy, Tulsi Gabbard, and Kash Patel. You should too.

You obviously don't listen to the show, because we are very hard on Democrats.

I listen almost every week and I acknowledge that you are often hard on Democrats but not as hard as you should be, in my opinion, and the failure to point out what I pointed out in my comment about the Democrats' attempted smear job is one good example. I had been a Democrat but I can no longer support either of the two major parties.

I think we can both agree that the Republicans may be robbing the bank, but the Democrats are driving the getaway car. And I'm not sure about Gabbard, but RFK Jr. and Kash Patel in my opinion are dangerous.

Just because some people have good ideas it doesn't mean they can cause great harm to the majority of people, some harms are devastating and people don't recover from it. Just because the former administration did so many wrongs, it doesn't mean that the new one has to double down in "revenge". Those people don't deserve a place where they can completely destroy lives. The HHS is responsible for Medicaid, for example. Medicaid is the ONLY way most disabled people can exist. The previous HHS did a lot of har to Medicare. promoting Medicare Advantage but they left the rules of Medicaid intact in regards to the rights of disabled people. RFK would do what disabled people fear the most, allow states to fully privatize Medicaid, meaning that the profit would come from cuts in life saving supports and/or the simple right of disable people to be part of a community, instead of spend their days either in a nursing home or in their own homes, without availble support ot be out and enjoy life. RFK is just an opportunist that will sold himself to trump to advance his misguided concepts about vaccines, as one example. He is not concerned about "safety". He has been in this crusade for decades. He believes vaccines cause autism, but only the autistic people who also present behavior issues or who have intellectual disabilities. He defended the disgraced former doctor Andrew Wakefield who is implicated in an autistic boy's murder. There is nothing refreshing about him, just dangerous.

I will guess that you have been listening to Glenn Greenwald, another one who is only concerned about growing an audience, no matter how informed or not informed this audience is, as long as he get praised and worshipped. He recently went all American Imperialist on the Brazilian left, suggesting that they are mutts hoping for America to pet them. If you not listening to him, maybe to someone who does because this narrative has no merit when it comes to weighing all the pros and cons of a nominee to an huge agency that affects so many people in so many ways

I disagree.

Expand full comment

I don't know what you disagree with with but I live the Medicaid experience and I can tell you, as a fact, that the rules didn't change under Biden, as bad as that man was. now the fight will be to make sure that HHS leaves in place the safeguards to prevent the states from simply discontinue the partner program. IF HHS allows that, places like Florida, where I live, will just stop the HCBS program, that allows disabled people to live out in the community and not in nursing homes. Florida already tried, the Obama administration stopped that. Republicans tried to do the same for the whole country under Trump but congress was divided and there was just enough pressure. Biden's HHS didn't allow it either. Now, who knows?

HR9495 nothing about 1st Ammendment Rights is mentioned in describing this bill. Only if an American is a hostage, IRS will delay their filing of taxes and if an organization, I assume nonprofit, has terrorists ties, supports terrorit groups...they lose their non profit status [I thought w/out due process]] or just lose leniency of filing by IRS. I looked this up and wrote to Randy Weber, Texas Republican for my district..he wrote letter back that HR9495 passed House and went to Senate and sits there. Nothing about 1st Ammendment Rights...google seacrch and his letter ...same definition.

So you talked to the fox that is in front of the hen house promising not to attack the hens if the door is left open. Who will they define terrorism? There are people right now who had their lives turned upside down because they criticized Israel and all of a sudden, they are receiving money from a "terrorist" organization, which many other organizations do, there is no terrorism involved and they had been doing this for years without a problem, always in transparent dealings.

There are proposals everywhere to tie anyone who criticizes Zionism to a terrorist ideology. Will that apply to an American who is a hostage of Israel? They don't even talk about Americans who were assassinated by Israel, let alone apply "the Law" on Palestinian Americans that might be dying under the IDF terrorist practices

Besides, the US breaks laws right and left when it comes to protecting Israel so why believe this would be different? Don't we already have a law that punishes Americans involved with American-designated "terrorists?
