Coles interviewed children and saw that ages five, six, seven & eight had a well-developed moral sense of right and wrong.
These children were not encumbered by vested interests. They could clearly signal the right path for a humane society.”

My response: Donahue is very unchristian, he represents the most pernicious form of political bigotry using all the worst tactics of political extremists. Clearly he is a political operative and rabid attack dog as those in the faith have documented his position as I pointed out from Msgr. Arthur Holquin, just a drop in the bucket of those countering him.
With the thousands of good weekly articles designed to inspire good things, why subject ourselves to such reactionary ugly swill? We should also call out hateful leftwing invective when it occurs.
And you have to wonder why Donahue almost never references Scripture, which is a vital matter for all believers as it is an ultimate standard especially when put in context from high leadership. All the churches work through collaboration, listening to their colleagues, and in the Roman Catholic church through the seasoned and responsible people in church authority. As John Donne said in one of his meditations, "The church is Catholic, universal, so are all Her actions; all that She does belongs to all." To give place to divisive right wing political bigotry and yellow journalism undermines reasonable discourse, unlike the ruthless political attacks as the current President practices and Lee Atwater was known for and Mr. Donahue puts out. It would be unthinkable for the US bishop's conference to give cover for the hateful and biased material like Donahue puts out.
Hope this broadens discussion and bridges vacant media spaces where Secularist & Religious orgs should be exchanging views with each other not to mention Philosophy Talk and Holy Hill seminarians of all stripes and symbols...
It is always a treat to listen to Chris Hedges clarity. I am an atheist but the way he speaks about religion is something so far from the usual dogmatic statements, it doesn't drive me away.
One thing that I didn't like was the use of the term "banana republic" when referring to Latin American countries. We all know that the corruption those countries face is a direct result of the decolonization that was promptly followed by the modern imperialism. Add that the institutions that prevent the countries from growing, like the IMF, they are more of less trapped. It is hard to get out. Not an excuse for corruption and they could do more. But "banana republic" deviates from how much imperialism plays in this situation.
I will start telling all the doctors I know to read and study Dr. John Geyman because a lot of the medial professionals have caved in to the system and don't seem to really care for the patients. I am losing count of how many bad experiences I had, and how many blunders I had to fix. In one case, even the internet was more informative than the many specialists seen. Not acceptable, and very troubling.
Chris Hedges is the most accessible contemporary public intellectual. His discussion of AI and Pope Leo XIV's encyclical presents an important criticism of that work. I disagree with many assessments of some of the faith leaders who have had major flaws, like many of us, when it comes to certain aspects of their moral/ethical positions on issues sometimes tangential to the thrust of their work.
I think that the sum of positive effects of organized religion are missing from human history. From the Crusades, to the Inquisition, and contemporary assaults in the Middle East, religion is either misunderstood, or it falls into the hands of evil people with predictable outcomes.
In terms of the effect of AI on thought, I taught remedial courses at a community college in upstate New York. A colleague accurately noted that students needed highly charged passages to read, or their interest would wane. I found the latter true, however, learning is sometimes not all that interesting and screens do rob a measure of concentration on mundane, but necessary, academic material.
Remember the old days when there were confessions and you would go into the box and tearfully and successfully confess your sins. Don't you think it would be more profitable and a lot easier for Leo and his evangelical team to put the flock on to right path to righteousness with A I ?

EPA has always been a captured 'industry front' agency, as have been the state environmental agencies. Under Trump his environmental and safety rule and enforcement rollbacks are blatant, whereas under Dubya and the following it was less obvious. But where's the public pushback on these rollbacks? Where's the anger and outrage in the hurting industrial sacrifice zones? Whatabout the MAGA farmers- are they still pounding for Trump?

But still no answer to my call for Ralph to take action on mass organizing citizens to mandate that politicians do not take big money to run their campaigns.
When the politicians take big money they are telling citizens that they will not be doing anything else that citizens mandate to get their votes.
So, Ralph, let's get that 1% in each congressional district to begin organizing citizens to demand small donor candidates and enforce that demand with our votes in 2026 so we can elect some small donor candidates in 2028.
Until we do that we will have a Congress that will not do anything else we want and all the advice and strategies in your books will be nothing more than pissing into the wind and will be no more effective than they have been for the last forty plus years.
You have said that politicians want our votes more than big money.
Listen to what you said and put that thought into action NOW!
Or keep not taking action and wait a short amount of time for the worst case scenario for democracy to finish destroying America and the world.

Dr. John Geyman lived on San Juan Island, about 80 miles north & west of Seattle. He was a champion for single-payer healthcare.
