No they’re not. I’ve followed their simpering cowardice for a while. Including Bernie. Major disappointment. Both major parties are owned, ya know, like in an oligarchy.
I have talked with more than one hundred young people over the last few years, pointedly, to fathom their early political awareness/ trying to understand the most basic civic roots of conservative or progressive allegiance or leaning. I asked some basic questions trying to be impartial as possible. Rough results: Some(thoughtfully) cannot find a candidate to support, either red or blue, due to a scarcity of balanced information or fogged debates they can't follow...but plenty of unbalanced opinions everywhere...The majority signaled their political apathy --it was overwhelming ---they will not get involved in most hot issues because politicians and politics are all the same lost cause. Come what may: nothing seems to ever change, etc. This dead-end spirit falls over some of every generation, to some degree, of course, but its present ubiquitous control of our status quo is perfect background noise now to ensure our rich and powerful civilization.
100% campaign finance reform is a great slogan but public financing of elections is unlikely to achieve that goal.
The problem with big money controlling our political process is that the big money legislators will only pass legislation that primarily benefits the big money interests and the big money interests have no interest in seeing such legislation passed.
In order to get such legislation passed we must first replace the big money legislators with small donor legislators. The problem has to solved before legislation to solve the problem can be passed.
Citizens can solve the problem without legislation by demanding candidates do not take big money and enforcing that demand with our votes.
That is a binary choice that young voters may be willing to accept.
Ralph has said many times that politicians want our votes more than big money.
So let's use our votes to test that theory.
Forty plus years of empty promises of campaign finance reform legislation that hasn't and won't happen any time soon is often discussed in various forms on the radio hour but despite Ralph saying on Washington Journal (10-24-2018) that he would have on the radio hour to discuss a way to get the big money out of politics without legislation Ralph has still not discussed this with me on or off the air.
If Ralph had discussed this with me in 2019 it is possible that we could have achieved 10% participation in the 2020 congressional elections, built on that in 2022 and have as much as 35-40% participation going into 2024 which would result in many districts with a majority of citizens making this demand making it virtually impossible for a big money candidate to win in that district.
Where do want to be in 2028, Ralph- stilling pining for legislation that will never happen or having the opportunity to elect many small donor candidates to Congress?

IMHO the most significant issue is the GINI Coefficient of Wealth
Inequality which is produced by massive greed and the slight-of-
